Brighton Montessori School was first established in 1974 as the first Melbourne Montessori establishment - originally known as the Melbourne Montessori Children's Centre - and then as Montessori Kindergarten Brighton Inc. With the strong parent support for both pre-school and primary Montessori education, 1998 was our year of transition from Montessori Kindergarten Brighton Inc. to Brighton Montessori School Inc. On February 01 1999 Brighton Montessori School Inc was approved by the Registered Schools Board offering a Montessori education that fulfils and surpasses the State's Curriculum Standard Frameworks. Our curriculum offers Language other than English (Italian) the Arts, (Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Drama), Technology, Physical Education (Gym, Ball Skills and Swimming). With our teaching staff having both Montessori and State qualifications they are well qualified to formulate and deliver developmentally, appropriate individual programs. The school conducts an open day in May each year.

Beechworth Montessori Children's Group commenced in 1996 with strong community interest to create a Montessori kinder. Set in a beautiful environment, the group continues to grow with a supported playgroup (0 - 3 years) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 - 12. Our cycle 1 room (kinder 3 - 6 years) operates 4 days a week from 9 - 2 with 3 year old kinder offered on Mondays. Our cycle 2/3 Primary room (aged 5 - 12 years) commenced in January 2007 with much committee and parential support, The whole group embraces the Montessori philosophy and we encourage parential involvement in the classrooms, attending information evenings, celebrations and sharing your skills or special interests with the children.

The Melbourne Montessori Early Education Centre is situated in a beautiful space within Collingwood College. We offer four half days or four full days (8:30am to 3pm) for children aged 3 – 6. Melbourne Montessori Early Education Centre (MMEEC) offers your child:

The Guiding principles of MMEEC are that:

the best time for learning is in the first 6 years of life;

the adults in the child’s environment are there to guide and stimulate, not to teach;

that each child has a strong urge to progress, to perfect him or herself and is fascinated by all aspects of life;

the child will choose from a prepared environment, the tools for his or her own development;

the child should then be free to concentrate fully on the activity, to repeat as often as he or she chooses and then to replace it on the shelf ready for the next child;

each classroom is a mini society and each child – and adult – is a respected member and

each child will develop to his or her full potential in a caring, non-competitive environment, free from all praise and competition.
